Day 10 - My New Year Resolutions | 12 Days of Christmas

Yep....I'm one of those suckers that make these. In my defense, I'm usually quite good at sticking to them (read...they all stand a 50/50 chance). I usually make an entire list of resolutions, but I've actually already successfully completed one before 2016 has even finished - I've given up milk (read up on it, you might want to too).

    Anyways, here goes nothing...

Day 9 - Christmas Traditions | 12 Days of Christmas

Everyone says this, every year - but Christmas goes by so quickly. Which is why every year my family and I always make sure we have the best time. We always tend to follow our usual traditions while still adding in new things each year. I am always interested in seeing other people's traditions so I thought I would share mine.

Day 8 - The Nutcracker | 12 Days of Christmas

I live with four bad-ass ladies, in my houseshare in South East London, and we collectively decided that our Christmas activity would be a group trip to see The Nutcracker by the English National Ballet.

    Day 7 - Dirty Dancing ★★★ | 12 Days of Christmas

Spontaneous trips the the theatre are my favourite and last night I went to see Dirty Dancing at the Phoenix theatre! Something which I though was funny was; a year ago on the Tuesday before Christmas Jake and I went to see Elf the musical and now this Tuesday before Christmas we find ourselves having the 'time of our lives'.

Day 6 - Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them | 12 Days of Christmas

A film review?! Have we ever done a film review before? I don't think we have....ooooo this is exciting then! And what a way to kick off - Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

For me there will always be something very festive about the Harry Potter universe...it always came out around my birthday (a winter baby), and lets not lie; we all remember and long for Hogwarts in the snow, and warming butter beer at Hogsmeade. So settling into a cinema seat, peanut M&M's ungraceful sat on my growing beer belly, I became so gleefully excited within the first few seconds of this film....dumdumduhduhduhdumdumdum.....

Day 5 - Visit Copenhagen (again) | 12 Days of Christmas

So, the beginning of the year, Jake and I headed to Copenhagen and I completely fell in love. You can read about that trip here & here! Fast forward 12 months and Emma and I headed back for some Christmas Shopping and a city break away together! I managed to find some bargain flights for the beginning of December, we wrapped up warm and were on our way.  On arriving we checked into the Hilton hotel by the airport. I would highly recommend staying at the Hilton since it is close to the airport, 10 minutes from the centre on the metro and the staff are all super helpful!

Day 3 - Samantha Cusick London | 12 Days of Christmas

I am funny when it comes to getting my hair cut, and panic about going to the hairdressers - so when I find a good place to go, I feel I need to share! I'd seen Samantha Cusick hairdressers on Instagram and heard through a few friends it's worth a visit. And, when I went I was certainly NOT disappointed. I have been going now since August and I would highly recommend you to pay a visit.

Day 2 - Licensed to Ill | 12 Days of Christmas

Okay, so I know a show about the the Beastie Boys doesn't sound like the most festive thing in the world, but I took my brother for his Christmas present so it counts! I've actually been to see this show twice now, so if that's not a glowing review, I don't know what is.

Day 1 - Visit York | 12 Days of Christmas

If you're thinking of planning a day trip or a weekend away here's a lovely idea to add to your 'places to go', especially around Christmas time. Jake and I want to start seeing more of the UK and make the most out of cities that are on our doorstep, although I adore seeing the world and travelling on different city breaks, it is more affordable and faster (most of the time). We headed to York one weekend, just for a day trip. After packing up our little car with road trip snacks and chose the perfect playlist, we were ready to go!

A few weekends back, I headed to Stylist Live with my sister, Kelly. As I am on the Stylist Beauty Council - I was treated to a pair of VIP tickets to the event as a thank you for my contributions. Stylist, for those you who don't know, is a free weekly magazine that is distributed across several cities in the UK. It is such a great magazine that I love reading each week. With the best high street buys, travel tips on a different location each week, the latest beauty & fashion trends and with much more great content, I'm so impressed they keep it free! Each year they hold Stylist Live which is a 4 day show to showcase their favourite brands; lesser known brands; catwalks to show the latest trends which you can shop straight from the high street and, they hold inspirational talks and workshops! And my gosh did we have fun?

BREAKING NEWS: Summer is now over. And we are now into N's favourite season ever. As August drew to and end it gave us time to reflect over 2016 summer and although here in the UK we did get some very sunny summer days - it just wasn't enough. So on reflection we are both so glad that we managed to find time jet away. August saw our blog have a lovely redesign with a shiny new logo too so we really hope you like it. It has been a busy month, N has started her new job which has meant a revaluation in her time management to ensure to balance everything and M has been finishing up at her current place of work, as she's about to embark on a new career too! Blush and Blow, on New Kings Road, is one of the newest hair salons offering blow drys and treatments, alongside cute, Instagrammable interiors. Opened by Bridget O'Keeffe, once a beauty blogger herself, it's evident that this salon knows customer experience is as important as treatment quality. A Day in the Life of a Hipster

I am constantly, unfairly, being labelled a hipster; I argue against it adamantly! Yes I adore coffee more than life, and yes my jean of choice is 'skinny', but no I am NOT a hipster who listens to bands you've 'probably never heard of.'
...but whoops. I just did THE most East London Hipster day of all time. Every once in a while, there's something really brilliant about immersing yourself in Shoreditch like a true tourist. Here is my day in the life of a hipster:

OH MY GOSH...it's been mental over here at Split the City, so please excuse our lack of monthly faves. We're hoping our beautiful new redesign makes up for it? Let us know you're thoughts!

We've both been jetting off on holidays, trying to dodge the rain here in London, among loads of other fun happenings too! It must be a sign we're getting older, as the months keep going too quick for our liking, but if it speeds up getting some sun, then we're into it.

One of the many reasons I have such a great love for East London, is that it's the one of the only places in London where you can still feel little pockets that have that 'community vibe' still intact. This is incredibly evident at bike store, London Fields Cycles. Their relaunch party wasn't populated by press etc... instead it was local people who were genuinely excited by the stores reopening, and a lot of Hackney BMX kids.

I always eat three, good sized portioned meals during the day, but it's simply not enough, especially now I'm working out more. Snacking's actually good for you! It keeps your metabolism constantly running and your bodies digestive system working over-time, all good things! However, the issue being, I used to snack on Twirls and Snickers....so what do I use now?

    Giving up Chocolate

I've never really participated in Lent before, because I've never really been one for excess...however when this year rolled around, I stopped and thought; 'Is there anything my life might be better without?' ...for me, the word, 'chocoholic' doesn't even cover it.

I can easily get through more than a few chocolate bars per day...they are my snack of choice. A Snickers here, a Twirl there, who cares?! I thought...that's not a healthy way to think. Before you know it you're knee deep in Lindt, and wondering what went wrong with your life.
I gave it up more out of intrigue than anything else, to purely test my self-will. Turns out it is hard. That sugar rush is as addictive anything else, and I've struggle, a lot. But I've learnt there are alternatives out there.
For those of you with the same affliction, here's what helped me through:

Valentines & Avoiding the Cringe Factor

I adore my boyfriend. I think the sun shines out of his rear-end, and I would take a bullet to the butt for him. However, I can't do soppy. I try so hard, but I just can't do it. Big pink love hearts, and teddy bears holding balloons tend to make me recoil in horror...I don't do cringe.
So this is a little guide, for those of you with a cold, dead heart like me, who'd rather do Valentines minus all the mush.
Yeah...you could go for dinner. Dinner is nice and food is good, but chances are you're going to end up opposite a load of other couples, all in competition for who can be the most sickly.
Yeah....you could go around the London Eye, and stare out into the view together, but chances are you're going to cramped in with tourists elbowing you out of the way, because you're ruining their selfie.
Yeah...you could go for a romantic stroll through Hyde Park, but it's freaking freezing and you're going to stand in dog poop.
    Here are my suggestions:

Review | Trainspotting, Kings Head Theatre ★★★★★

How I'll get through this review without swearing is completely beyond me, but I'm going to give it a go.

Trainspotting, by Irvine Welsh, is my favourite book. It borders on obsession; I think I first read it when I was around 14/15, and I just fell in love with the vulgarity and aggression. Thankfully, in my life, I've never known someone to have a destructive substance addiction, but what resonated with me was the anger and friendships of the small town atmosphere. Then I saw the film and my mind erupted even more so; well acted, gut-wrenching and hilarious. It deserved all of the accolades going.
I went to see Irvine Welsh talk at a public reading when he released 'Skagboys', and he was so eloquent, and clever, about his topics and writing, that I then proceeded to read the entire Irvine Welsh back catalogue.
Trainspotting will always be my favourite, and hold a special place in my heart and so I'm very, very protective of it.
Kings Head, and In Your Face Theatre, had a lot to live up to.
